MiDAS Minibus Courses

Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme is a national standard of minibus training and assessment administered by the Community Transport Association. It is primarily the best source of training for organisations with voluntary drivers.

The Health and Safety Executive estimate that 1,100 people are killed in work-related road accidents each year in the UK. By undergoing MiDAS training, your organisation will be taking steps to follow HSE guidance on providing duty of care for employees, volunteers and contractors.

Location & Cost

The training can be held at your own premises or at our training room in Chester, Cheshire. Cost for the Standard MiDAS course is the normal daily rate, plus minibus-hire if applicable. For more information email info@fawcett-driver-training.co.uk and we will endeavour to respond to your query the same working day.

Course Duration & Structure

The Standard MiDAS includes a 3-hour theoretical training session (including break and theory test) and 70-minute minibus assessment drive for each candidate.

The theory session can be delivered on a maximum 1:12 (trainer/candidate) ratio with practical ideally one-to-one.

Target Groups

Any organisation with volunteers using minibuses. Ideal for those needing to promote a safety-conscious image to the general public, especially when carrying children or other vulnerable passengers. Example organisations: day care nurseries, scout groups, sports clubs, charities, care workers, schools, colleges, universities, local authorities.

Any individual driver attending MiDAS course must be at least 21 years of age and have at least 2 years driving experience. Other entry criteria may also apply.

Syllabus

The standard course for minibus drivers incorporates training in the following areas:

  • Defensive Driving

  • Legal Requirements for Minibus Drivers

  • Passenger Safety & Child Passenger Safety

  • Personal Safety for Drivers

  • Breakdown, Collision & Emergency Procedures

  • Health & Safety and Manual Handling Awareness

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be provided with a minibus drivers’ handbook and MiDAS certificate valid for 4 years.

MiDAS Accessible Minibus Course

The Accessible section of MiDAS training is for those organisations operating wheelchair accessible minibuses and is an additional module to the Standard MiDAS training.

In 30 cases of minibus “rollover” across Europe there were 96 fatalities and 56 cases of serious injury, according to United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

By training minibus drivers who carry vulnerable passengers, organisations are more likely to avoid tragedy as well as providing a duty of care to their employees and volunteers.
