Awareness - Top Tips
19th
March 2007
The
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has produced guidance
on how to stay within the speed limit. RoSPA's head of road safety,
Kevin Clinton, said: "Many car drivers unintentionally exceed the
speed limit, often without realising it. Modern cars are so powerful
and comfortable they give drivers little sensation of their speed".
Top
ten tips:
- Check
your speedometer regularly
- Speed
limits are a maximum, not a target
- Concentrate
- Know
the limit!
- Assume
lamp posts mean 30mph
- 20's
plenty (with children about)
- Try
3rd gear in a 30mph limit
- Be
careful when entering villages
- Be
disciplined
- Give
yourself time
Rospa
have produced a guidance document on the above which explains the thinking
behind each tip. They also urge drivers to update their skills on a
refresher driver training course, such as Speed Appreciation provided
by Fawcett Driver Training.
