Driving for Work Campaign

26th February 2007

According to Department for Transport's February 2007 report "Tomorrows Roads - Safer for Everyone (2nd review)", high risk road users such as those who drive for work, are to be targetted in a new publicity campaign.

"Driving for Work" will initially tackle the growing number of van drivers, highlighting issues of tiredness, seatbelts and mobile phone use.

This will be based around a message that we are all dependant on van drivers and that, as professional, they need to set driving standards on our roads.

Additionally, if a vehicle used for work purposes comes to the attention of the police (such as a collision, vehicle defect or the driver committing an offence), then a police officer will visit the employer with delegated HSE inspection powers.

They can then, if necessary, undertake a formal workplace inspection, directing employers to sources of help where needed.
